Abstract

Ultrasound is the optimal imaging modality for evaluation of the scrotum. The combination of high-resolution, gray-scale, and color Doppler and spectral Doppler imaging provides excellent depiction of the testicular parenchyma and the extra-testicular, intrascrotal structures and their vascularity, respectively. Advantages of ultrasound include its lack of ionizing radiation, portability, relative low cost, and diagnostic utility when marked pain or swelling limits physical examination. Various neoplastic, inflammatory, congenital, infectious, and vascular processes can affect the testes.
