Abstract
Golden camellias are very famous ornamental plants distributed in a narrow region of southern China and northern Vietnam. The internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions of nuclear ribosomal DNA from the Ser. Chrysantha (Sect. Chrysantha, Camellia, Theaceae) were sequenced. The phylogenetic tree resulted from the maximum parsimony (MP) analysis of the ITS sequences showed that C. pubipetala, C. achrysantha and C. fascicularis are distinct to other species, which formed two monophyletic groups, and a clade consisting C. flavida, C. grandis and C. impressinervis is well supported, but another clade including 8 species and 1 variety is poorly supported (52%). Taxonomic reexamination the Ser. Chrysantha seems to be still needed.
