Friel, E. D. ; Cudworth, K. M. Abstract Areas at high galactic latitude were selected for the survey with the objective to minimize the contribution by disk stars. In order to compare the obtained data with the predictions from star-count models of the Galaxy, use was made of the Standard Export version (1983) of the Bahcall-Soneira (B-S) Galaxy model. Attention is given to a description of models, star counts, color distributions, the observed color distribution for 640 stars in SA 94, a similar set of color distributions for the stars in the Serpens field, a comparison with other data, the lack of blue stars in Serpens, and thick-disk models. The results of the survey are evaluated. It is concluded that star-count data alone are not enough to determine the mean metallicity; a spectroscopic survey of the fields is needed to resolve the uncertainty.
