Abstract

A description of the design, construction, and use of a photoelectric counter suitable for counting tick larvae or small insects is given. To facilitate construction of the apparatus, commercially available components were used as much as possible. Standard errors of replicate counts of tick larvae were 0.3% for small samples and 0.45% for larger samples.
