Abstract

Abstract This analysis of high‐frequency monosyllabic words breaks these words into five categories. The spelling‐sound characteristics of these categories is shown to justify such categorization. The different characteristics of these categories indicates that a certain order for teaching high‐frequency monosyllabic words is called for. This sequence of teaching, as presented, represents an order for the teaching of these words to be preferred over those previously offered.
