Abstract

A petrified bark of Cupressaceae is described from the Foremost Formation (Upper Cretaceous) near Redcliff in southern Alberta. The bark is named Cupressinocortex albertaense gen. et sp. nov. It is characterized by secondary phloem composed of tangential bands of sieve cells, axial parenchyma, and fibers, and the possession of conspicuous vertical resin canals.
