Abstract
The textbook has been pointed as one of the most common teaching resources in Brazilian schools, for times occupying a central role in the teaching-learning process. Therefore, several studies investigate the quality of books, using different analysis methodologies. This work seeks to present an instrument for evaluating textbooks, developed by the project 2061 of the American Association for the Advancement of the Science. This instrument was used to investigate to what extent the books approved by the National Textbook Program provide support for the teaching-learning process of redox content. Finally, approaches and distances between the instrument and the main methodologies used in research on textbooks in the Brazilian context are discussed.
