Abstract
Based upon a standard form of the inverse scattering transform for the MNLS equation out of a new Lax pair, a perturbation theory for the MNLS equation with corrections is developed. Formulae for calculating the scattering data are derived without introducing any assumption beyond the usual conditions for the inverse scattering transform.
