Abstract

A hypervirial perturbation method is shown to give accurate energy levels for a previously proposed Schrödinger equation for the relative motion of two ions in a Penning trap. The numerical results obtained by some previous authors are found to be in error and the new perturbation results are checked by an independent finite difference method.
