Abstract

The most significant advantage of the pedicle bone flap technique is the preservation of bone tissue that ordinarily would be lost if the customary routine were followed. Retention of this facial bone stimulates repair of the surgical defect and protects the blood clot that fills the surgical void. By acting as a pressure dressing, the pedicle bone flap aids in control of blood clot enlargement to prevent hematoma formation. It also helps to minimize or prevent postoperative hemorrhage.
