Abstract

The Galle Medical Journal is published by the Galle Medical Association. The journal is published quarterly in March, June, September and December each year. The submissions are accepted throughout the year. The aims of the Journal are to foster co-operation among the medical fraternity and to be a forum to make literary contributions, share experiences encountered in medical practice, update their knowledge and have debates on topics related to all aspects of medicine.

Highlights

  • She improved with intravenous cefotaxime 2g 8 hourly and a short course of intravenous dexamethasone 4mg 8 hourly for three days

  • Twenty four days after discharge she was readmitted with severe headache and dizziness without fever. She had unsteadiness of gait and developed a generalized tonic clonic seizure without any mucosal injuries or incontinence in the same evening. She did not give a history of recurrent otitis media, sinusitis or connective tissue disorders like systemic lupus erythematosus or vasculitic illnesses

  • Extensive clinical search for sinusitis, middle ear infections, scalp lacerations with fracture of skull bones, congenital fistulae and other sites of infections was negative
