Abstract

Pulmonary polymicrobial infection of Aspergilus fumigatus and Eschrechia coli is a rare disorder in an immunocompetent host. We report a case of primary laryngeal aspergillosis with secondary bacterial infection in a 35 year-old immunocompetent Indian female patient. She complained of fever, hoarsness of voice, dysphagia, stridor and respiratory obstruction. Culture of sputum and pleural effusate revealed infection of A. fumigatus and multidrug resistant ESBL producing-E. coli respectively. To the best of our knowledge this is the first case of polymicrobial infection associated with primary laryngeal aspergillosis and secondary bacterial lung infection. Treatment with Voriconazole and an antibiotic adjuvant entity of Ceftriaxone, Sulbactam and Disodium edetate succesfully resolved the patient.
