Abstract

In this paper, a novel partial-capacity configuration solid-state transformer (PCSST) is proposed for continuous co-phase traction power supply system. This PCSST is characterized with partial-capacity compared with the conventional full-capacity SST which must be capable of transmitting the total load power. For capacity reduction, one output port of Scott traction transformer is connected in series with the proposed PCSST. Thus, partial of the load power is transferred through the Scott traction transformer. The basic operation principle is described and the control strategy is developed for power conditioning requirements. The feasibility of the proposed converter and control strategy is validated by the simulation.
