Abstract

In this paper a parametric study for the designing of Planar Inverted F Antenna (PIFA) for handheld devices has been proposed. The total dimensions of the proposed antenna including the ground plane are 37mm × 35mm × 5mm, which are suitable to be operated within the mobile handheld devices. A conceptual study has been performed on various parameters such as width of shorting plate, dimensions of ground plane and height of proposed antenna. By studying the effect of these parameters, a better design for mobile handheld devices is proposed. The final proposed antenna shows a multiband behavior in the frequency range of 1–6 GHz covering DCS1800 UL band (1.70 GHz), 4G LTE (2.3 GHz), WiBRO (2.35 GHz), Wi-Fi/Bluetooth 802.11g (2.4 GHz), m-WiMAX (2.5 GHz), WiMAX (3.5 GHz) and Wi-Fi 802.11a (5.2 GHz) communication standards.
