Abstract

A new parametric criterion for the fatigue strength of fibre-reinforced composite laminae under biaxial plane stress loading conditions is proposed. The concept behind this new parametric theory has recently been used in the formulation of a general static failure criterion. To illustrate the validity and usefulness of the new criterion for predicting fatigue failure of composite laminae, two examples of application lor laminae subjected to reversed cycling about zero mean stress are presented. The predictions are compared with experimental data, and the accuracy of the predictions is assessed. The main advantages of the new parametric approach are also discussed.
