Abstract
ABSTRACT The powder burn model is a mathematical model used to characterize the combustion behavior of energetic materials. In this paper, a parameter determination method for the powder burn model is proposed based on the Levenberg-Marquardt (L-M) optimization algorithm, establishing connections between internal ballistics parameters and powder burn model parameters. Taking a 4/1 single-base propellant as an example, the detailed fitting process is presented, and error analysis is conducted. The fittings of the gas state equation and reaction rate equation of powder burn model converge at the 15th and 22nd iterations, respectively. Both fittings displayed a high level of accuracy, with an R-squared value of 0.999. The comparison with the results of the closed bomb experiments demonstrates excellent agreement between pressure-time curves calculated by the powder burn model and the internal ballistics model, confirming their suitability for describing the combustion behavior of propellants. This method provides a foundation for numerically simulating the internal ballistics combustion behavior of energetic materials.
