Abstract

A part of a transputer based expert diagnostic system, used for fault diagnosis in a particle physics detector, is composed of a neural network performing a classification of failures through a suitable visual pattern recognition. The neural network is able to give a response with regard to some typical malfunctions in the apparatus by means of the values of a histogram of the particle position during several events. This is a software implementation of a feedforward neural network on a transputer based system. This solution is adopted to speedup the computation time of the network. The neural network outputs are used by the expert system and integrated with other information to perform an efficient diagnosis.
