Abstract

A new version of parallel multicyclone size-selective particulate sampling train was developed for the determination of aerodynamic particle size distribution in the inlet and outlet of wet scrubbers for sulfur oxides control. The sampling train consisted of a sampling box, two air dryers, and two air flow control boxes. A parallel multicyclone sampling unit, the most critical part of the sampling train, was housed in the sampling box. This unit consisted of a by-pass filter holder and four cyclones of three different types. A back-up filter was attached to each cyclone to collect particles escaped from each cyclone. Laboratory test and field demonstration at a TVA power plant showed that the sampler was capable of separating particles in the desired cut-off sizes: 6, 4, 1 and 0.5 microns.
