Abstract

Gustav HELLMANN was a noted meteorologist and a superb pioneer historian of meteorology. The following commemorative essay is primarily concerned with HELLMANN the historian, whose stimulating historiographic legacy provides a unique opportunity for others to learn what the timeless value of certain intellectual resources - languages, perceptiveness, definite criteria -, combined with a care for style, can do to create as permanent and inspiring a work as HELLMANN'S.
