Abstract

The standoff between Palestine and Israel is one of the most entrenched and enduring conflicts in the world. The cycle of violence and mutual blame seems without end. This Viewpoint argues that non-violence is a path that has yet to be taken in attempting to move toward peace and reconciliation. Non-violence has the potential to overcome the trauma and the pervasive feeling of victimhood that exist on both sides. It is however a painful and challenging path that requires Israelis and Palestinians to take responsibility for their lives; to recognize and challenge destructive behaviours while respecting each other’s identity and desire to live with dignity on this land. Non-violence can offer a way forward for these two truths to live side by side.
