Abstract

Two efficient, straightforward and ecofriendly protocols are described for one-pot multicomponent synthesis of pyrrolo[2,3,4-kl]acridin and 1,8-dioxodecahydroacridine derivatives using salicylic acid as the catalyst and polyethylene glycol (PEG-200) as the promoter solvent. The reported approach shows significant advantages, such as operational simplicity, the use of an inexpensive and nontoxic catalyst, high yields, short reaction time, and the product isolation ease without chromatographic separation. An important feature of this work is the route of the reaction that depends on the reaction solvent.
