Abstract

The authors describe a novel despeckling algorithm for SAR images based on approximation-theoretic techniques in a suitably chosen ('cartoon') image space. The algorithm is effective but costly; numerical techniques for reducing the cost are also described. Only one-dimensional images are considered but the basic technique is also applicable to two-dimensional images. It also generalises readily to other choices of image space.
