Abstract

Analyze the implications of the Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad of Publics Schools (OBMEP) in the mathematics teaching-learning process in ÁguaBranca-PI, from 2005 until 2014. For this, we conducted a qualitative studywith 10 (ten) professionals, from05 (five) OBMEP participant schools. They were submitted to a recordedinterview, andthey answered a semi-structured questionnaire. The results showthat the Olympics positively influence the teaching and learning of mathematics in order to awaken student interest in the subject. However, it is clear the concern of educators regarding the difficulties in implementing projects aimed at preparing students for better results in OBMEP. The research enabled us to reflect on the challenges faced by teachers, students’difficulties facing the mathematical content, and the possible contributions of usability issues from the Olympics as a teaching and learning methodology of that science.
