Abstract

The two-dimensional diffusion equation with nonperiodic driving term is solved by a finite-difference method. Moving parts, inductance-limited eddy currents, and strong saturation of the ferromagnetic materials are taken into account. The numerical procedure is based on time stepping and iterative solution by successive line overrelaxation. The method is used for the calculation of the dynamic behaviour of high-speed electromagnets.
