Abstract

A finite difference method is presented for the solution of axially symmetrical and plane elasticity problems which makes efficient use of the high-speed digital computer. The method is ideally suited to the treatment of both simply and multiply connected regions with irregular boundary shapes, temperature distributions, body force distributions, and any physically admissible combination of boundary tractions and displacements. Numerical results are included showing close agreement with photoelastic results for a stress concentration problem.
