Abstract

Battery thermal management systems (BTMSs) and their stable operation are crucial for safety and efficiency of electrical vehicles. A BTMS utilized a cold plate is proposed in this paper for cooling of a cylindrical Li-ion Battery Pack (BP) arranged in 2×18 layout. The main focus of the study is on the effects of cooling fluid inlet temperature to cooling efficiency, and it is numerically investigated for 2C discharge rate at various flow rates from 0.1 to 1.0 l/min. The maximum temperature difference (ΔT max ) inside the BP and the maximum cell temperature (Tmax ) are analyzed via ANSYS Fluent software. Based on the comprehensive analysis of all system evaluation criteria, it can be concluded that the optimum flow rate is 0.5 l/min, and the optimum inlet temperature is 20 °C.
