Abstract

A novel wideband slotline antenna is proposed using the multimode resonance concept. By symmetrically introducing two slot stubs along the slotline radiator near the nulls of electric-field distribution of the second odd-order mode, two radiation modes are excited in a single slotline resonator. With the help of the two stubs, the second odd-order mode gradually merges with its first counterpart and results into a wideband radiation with two resonances. Prototype antennas are then fabricated to experimentally validate the principle and design approach of the proposed slotline antenna. It is shown that the proposed slotline antenna's impedance bandwidth could be effectively increased to 32.7% while keeping an inherent narrow slot structure.
