Abstract

A novel waveguide-to-coaxial transition with magnetic closed loop has been developed. A conventional rectangular waveguide (RWG) directly mounts on a printed circuit board (PCB) and actualizes the transition from the RWG to the coaxial line (CL). Due to the magnetic coupling structure implanted in the PCB, the size of the transition is similar to the aperture of the RWG. After studying the structural characteristics, two transitions are fabricated. The transition in back-to-back connection is measured. The bandwidth is wider than 23.6% for insertion loss (IL) no more than 0.61 dB and return loss more than 15 dB. Omitting slots and insertion, the vertical transition can integrate more millimeter-wave circuits with smaller sizes and lower cost.
