Abstract

At present, the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) has agreed on using the high interference indicator (HII) for uplink inter-cell interference coordination (ICIC). HII indicates the potential uplink interference to other cells. In traditional HII based ICIC schemes, cells suffering from different inter-cell interference receive the same HII, it therefore causes ICIC to have a low efficiency. To overcome the shortcomings, a cell-specific and realistic HII is designed firstly. Second, two uplink coordination methods are selected and simplified. Integrating HII and the modified methods, a novel uplink ICIC scheme is proposed to improve the performance of ICIC for 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems. Further, simulation results show that our scheme significantly improves the system's spectral efficiency and reduces the blocking probability of user equipments (UEs) by more than 50% compared with existing ICIC schemes.
