Abstract

The zinc isomaleonitrile dithiolate (Zn( i-MNT)) reacts with 3-methylpyridine(3-mpy) to form a novel and stable adduct containing three coordinated 3-mpy molecules which was characterized by elemental analyses, IR and 1H NMR. The crystal structure determination reveals that the Zn atom in tris(3-methyl-pyridine)[(dimercaptomethylene)propanedinitrilato-S, S′)] zinc(II) is in a distorted trigonal bipyramidal geometry with the N(1)S(1)N(3) occupying the equatorial plane and the N(2)S(1) occupying the apical positions.
