Abstract

This paper presents an out-rotor 12/8 pole doubly salient permanent magnet (DSPM) generator. Finite element analysis of this generator is carried out to investigate the magnetic field distribution at different rotor positions and load currents. Hence, the characteristics of the proposed generator are deduced, the steady-state and dynamic models are presented and output power equation is derived. In this paper, two types of power electronics circuits for converting the AC output of the DSPM generator to DC power have been presented. Based on the dynamic models of DSPM generator, the simulation with different output circuit is carried out. From the simulated results, it can be seen that by using a diode rectifier with constant DC link current, more output power can be achieved from DSPM generator.
