Abstract
A thermometric phase transition detector with several novel features is described. High differential sensitivity, in situ measurement of temperature, the small mass of mixture required ( approximately 1 mg) and its coupling to a polarising microscope make it very useful for the determination and identification of very weak enthalpy changes such as those found in the high-order transitions of liquid crystals.
