Abstract

A novel tethered phenothiazine-coumarin fluorescent probe C-Ptz was synthesized for the detection of ClO− ion. Upon the reaction of C-Ptz with ClO− ions, a fluorescence enhancement (∼42 folds) was observed by blocking PET quenching pathway. The probe C-Ptz showed highly selectivity and fast “turn-on” response (within 3 s) towards ClO− with detection limit down to 12.6 nM. Furthermore, the fluorescent probe C-Ptz was utilized to the fluorescence imaging of ClO− in living cells. In addition, its measurement of ClO− was also performed in real-life water samples.
