A Novel SVM-Based Edge Detection Method

Abstract

Abstract This paper presents a new, simple and effective edge detection algorithm based on support vector machine (SVM), because of the disadvantages in the traditional image edge detection methods, such as rough edge, noise edge and inaccurate edge location. Based on least squares SVM with Gaussian radial basis function kernel, a set of the new gradient operators and the corresponding second derivative operators are obtained. The experimental results indicate that the proposed edge detector is greatly improved comparing with the traditional edge detection methods.
