Abstract

A hydrogen-bonded supramolecular compound, [Hbet] 3[Fe(CN) 6]·4H 2O, has been synthesized from betaine ((CH 3) 3N +CH 3CO 2 −) (bet) and K 3[Fe(CN) 6] and structurally characterized. The crystal structure consists of neutral two-dimensional sheets assembled via hydrogen bonding between the protonated betaine (Hbet +) and the hexacyanoferrate(III) ion, while the hydrogen bonding involving water molecules interlinks the sheets to form a unique three-dimensional supramolecular architecture.
