Abstract

This study used an unconventional friction melt-bonded spot welding (FMSW) to improve the mechanical performance of dissimilar Ti/Al joints. The temperature, microstructure, and mechanical properties were investigated. Results showed that FMSW was a suitable method to form nanoscale Al3Ti at Ti/Al interface. The maximum tensile shear load of joints reached 18.2 kN.
