Abstract
From the bulbs of Polianthes tuberosa Linn., a novel steroidal saponin has been isolated. The molecular structure has been elucidated by extensive spectroscopic means and chemical reactions. The compounds has been identified as 2β,3β,16β,22β tetrahydroxycholesta-5-ene 16-O-β-D-apiofuranoside.
