Abstract

Smart grid facilitates continuous monitoring, intelligent and smart distributed electric power transmission system. In Smart grid, Central electricity power provider is responsible for continuous monitoring and billing with the smart meters. However, the smart meter data authenticity is crucial to working with the smart grid network. As advanced meter communicates in two way digital system, every entity must be authorized to securely transmitting the data. In this paper, a secure authentication scheme is designed using Verifiable random function(VRF) for AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) deployment in smart grid. VRF uses ECC (Elliptic curve cryptography) which is applicable in smart meter infrastructure. The performance analysis and Security analysis has been carried out and compared with existing schemes. The proposed protocol has been proved secure using BAN logic.
