Abstract

In this paper, an efficient and accurate unified approach for electromagnetic analysis by multilayer embedded objects is proposed. In this approach, the objects are replaced by the background medium and a single surface equivalent electric current on the outermost boundary is introduced to ensure fields in the exterior region unchanged. There are two main merits of the proposed approach compared with the traditional two-region formulations, like the PMCHWT: (1) Only a single surface electric current source rather than both the electric and magnetic current sources is required. (2) The equivalent surface current is enforced only on the outermost boundary of objects. Therefore, the overall count of unknowns is significantly reduced compared with that of the two-region formulations, which require both the electric and magnetic currents on each interface of different homogeneous media. Numerical results validate the accuracy of the proposed approach.
