Abstract

A novel simultaneous input and output matching method for GPS CMOS switched Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) for nominal and bypass modes is proposed in this paper. The switched LNA is fabricated in a 0.18 mum SiGe BiCMOS technology, occupying a die area of 0.34 times 0.47 mm2. For typical condition at 25 C and 1.8 V supply voltage, in the nominal mode, experimental results show that it consumes 3.49 mA DC current and achieves a voltage gain of 14.8 dB, a noise figure (NF) of 2.59 dB, with an input return loss of -15.7 dB, an output return loss of -18.5 dB, S12 of -25 dB, and an input referred PldB of -12 dBm. In the bypass mode, it consumes 1.3 muA DC current and achieves a loss of 7 dB, a NF of 7.8 dB, with an input return loss of -13.1 dB, an output return loss of -7.4 dB, S12 of -7.2 dB, an input referred PldB of +13 dBm. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed switchable simultaneous input and output matching method for both nominal and bypass modes.
