Abstract

The excellent properties of heat-resistant aluminum alloy FVS0812 in high temperature make it a serious competitor to replace the heavier materials in air craft to respond to the weight reduction demand. However, the introduction of FVS0812 brings new challenges to sheet metal forming such as cracking and wrinkling because of the poor formability of the FVS0812 sheet. In this paper, a novel sheet metal forming technology named as wrapped-layer drawing is proposed to enhance formability of FVS0812 sheet and a sphere-shaped FVS0812 part is drawn by this novel forming technology. The mechanism of the enhancement of formability of the FVS0812 is investigated analytically by focusing on the prevention of instability of plastic deformation. Moreover, this novel technology is compared with the other similar forming technologies. This work lays a foundation for the drawing of low plastic metal sheet.
