Abstract
Identification of fault direction is important task for transmission line protection scheme. The current paper presents direction protection scheme based on positive sequence impedance approach. The proposed approach uses the samples of instantaneous positive sequence current component and instantaneous positive sequence voltage component to get the Z matrix value. The Z matrix value is used to detect the direction of the fault correctly. The proposed protection scheme (PPS) is examined with different power systems configuration. To realize the ability of the PPS, several critical cases such as high fault resistance, power flow change, single pole tripping and noise effect, are tested to prove the accuracy of the PPS. The results confirmed that accurate operation of the PPS.
