Abstract

This paper focuses a novel relaying approach of combined discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and artificial neural network (ANN)-based relaying scheme in unified power flow controller (UPFC) integrated wind fed transmission line. The novelty of the scheme illustrates the fault detection time reduces drastically to 5 msec (quarter period cycle time). The comparisons are made with DWT and the combined approach of DWT and ANN. It is seen that using combined approach, performance is better as compared to DWT alone. The process starts with DWT processor to find spectral energy (SE) of each phase current. The differential spectral energy (DSE) is computed using the difference value of SE at both end of the line. The computed DSE value obtained from DWT is fed to ANN fault detector to register the fault pattern. Further it is trained and tested with different parameter variation of the line to obtain fault detection time.
