The finding of a new rearrangement of alkyl (N-alkylamido) methyl sulfides promoted by strong bases such as NaH, LDA, and t-BuLi is described. The reaction induces a migration of the alkyl group linked to the sulfur to the amide carbonyl giving the corresponding ketone.
