Abstract

This paper introduces a photovoltaic (PV) series arc detection algorithm for preventing the false detection. Since various system noises such as switching noise of PV inverter and current ripple components exist in PV systems, it is difficult to distinguish and detect series arc noise from such system noise. Because system noises cause the possibility of nuisance detection, DC series arc detectors are limited in its application in actual PV systems. In this paper, we present peak noise, periodic noise, and instantaneous noise as noise causing false detection, and present a technique to distinguish it from series arc noise. The proposed technique is applied to an embedded DSP-based arc detector. The performance of improving for preventing false detection is verified through arc detection experiment.
