Abstract

AbstractA novel printed microstrip reconfigurable antenna with three switchable frequencies is proposed. The proposed microstrip‐fed antenna was fabricated on FR4 substrate and mainly consists of four semicircular rings, one circular ring, one cross strip, and one defected ground plane. The uniqueness of this design is that various groups of operating frequencies can be selected electronically by controlling two PIN diode switches purposefully. Several kinds of reconfigurable resonant frequencies covering the bands of 2.30–2.53 GHz, 3.19–3.81 GHz, and 4.68–6.03 GHz, which can be applied in the systems of Bluetooth (2.4–2.484 GHz), WiMAX (3.3–3.6 GHz), and WLAN (2.4–2.484 GHz, 5.15–5.35 GHz, and 5.725–5.875 GHz), are achieved. Meanwhile, the presented antenna has nearly omnidirectional radiation patterns and relatively high gains. By comparing the simulated and measured results, a good agreement is obtained. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
