Abstract

Abstract In order to raise the need of co-surfactant in the synthesis of NiO nanoparticles, [bis(2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehydato)nickel(II)] complex was employed as a novel precursor in thermal decomposition process using oleylamine (C 18 H 37 N) as surfactant. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy. Also the novel precursor thermally was treated in solid state reaction in different temperature, 400, 500, and 600 °C. Synthesized nickel oxide nanoparticles have a cubic phase with average size of 15–20 nm.
