Abstract

Chaotic sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) has been proposed and applied into suppressing the electromagnetic interference (EMI) generated by power converters. However, the power loss of the power switches under chaotic SPWM control have not been mentioned and analyzed yet; the power loss is an very important factor, since it can partly decide the dynamic performance and reliability of power converters. Furthermore, the existing power loss calculation method is no longer suit for the situation with chaotic SPWM control. In this paper, a novel power loss calculation method is proposed, and tested by the IGBTs in an AC-DC converter under Chaotic SPWM control. According to the calculation results, different power loss of IGBTs under SPWM and chaotic SPWM control are observed and analyzed. Finally, the experimental results are given to prove the effectiveness of the power loss calculation method proposed in this paper.
