Abstract

A novel planar electromagnetic bandgap` structure with hybrid bridges (HB-EBG) is proposed by integrating two different kinds of S-shaped bridges for ultra-wideband simultaneous switching noise (SSN) suppression in multilayer PCBs. −40 dB stopband is achieved from 218 MHz to 15 GHz. Compared with the EBG structure with L-shaped bridges and slits (LBS-EBG), the lower cutoff frequency decreases from 432 MHz to 218 MHz with a similar higher frequency range performance. A lower band-gap center frequency is obtained. A locally embedded HB-EBG structure in power plane is employed to improve the signal integrity. Simulations and measurements are performed to verify the high performance both in SSN suppression and signal integrity.
