Abstract

The paper has put forward a novel step recovery diode (SRD) circuit based on Marx structure, which analyzes the principle of Marx structure and SRD in detail. Marx structure is taken to amplify the amplitude of pulse output due to traditional SRD circuit generating low output voltage. But SRD has essential strength of picosecond transit time, applied to obtain ultra-short pulse widely. The designed circuit in this paper is composed of five stages Marx structure and SRDs in parallel adopted to sharpen rise edge and fall edge, which produces a 60 ps rise time (10%~90%), a 100 ps full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) and a 13 V output voltage.
